Will a Facelift Leave Scars?

Will a Facelift Leave Scars?

One of the most common surgeries to reverse signs of aging is a face lift in Los Angeles. Just one procedure can take up to two decades off your appearance, and the results are long-lasting.

As you get older, your skin naturally loses elasticity, resulting in sagging skin and wrinkles. A face lift can turn the clock back on your face’s aging. Extra folds of skin and deep wrinkles can be treated with this surgical procedure.

During a facelift procedure, the plastic surgeon makes an incision on the outer edges of the face, and they then take that flap of skin and pull it back. The tissues beneath the skin are then altered to make a more natural and youthful contour. Then, the excess skin is removed and the skin is sewn back, pulled tighter to reduce sagging skin. This operation takes between two to three hours on average.

The incisions will likely be closed up with either sutures, stitches, or skin glue, and the surgeon may also use surgical staples around the hairline. It’s important to secure the incisions since gravity will pull the skin downwards. The surgeon will also wrap bandages around your head to keep swelling down and to protect the surgical wound.

The thought of someone cutting into your face may make you feel squeamish, and it sounds like it would leave a nasty scar. Any surgical procedure is going to result in a scar of some measure. However, plastic surgeons go to great lengths to avoid leaving any noticeable scars. Not only will they provide you with extensive aftercare instructions, but they will also cut in places where the scars will be camouflaged.

When you get a Los Angeles facelift, the surgeon will likely cut among these areas:

  • At the hairline near the temples or forehead
  • Directly in front of the ear
  • Behind the ear
  • The hairline behind the ear

These places are ideal for facelift incisions because the hair can cover them. It’s also likely that the scars will heal so nicely that only a touch of makeup is needed to obscure them.
