Which Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery Right For You?

Eyelid surgery is a customized procedure that allows cosmetic plastic surgeons to aesthetically improve the shape and condition of the eye area.

Eyelid surgery (also called blepharoplasty) aims to improve the overall appearance and functionality of the eyelids, and can be performed on either one or both of the upper and/or lower lids.

Eyelid surgery repairs the effects of aging, cosmetically and as it relates to vision, and can treat sagging skin, fatty deposits and bags under the eyes, drooping lower eyelids and wrinkles.

You may be considering eyelid surgery for cosmetic reasons, to reduce visible signs of aging, or to address bulging eyes or sagging lids. Regardless of the reason. Our team of facial plastic surgery specialists at Westside Face are here to help.

To learn more about the different types of eyelid surgery, our double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Aynehchi, specializes in performing blepharoplasty eyelid procedures in Los Angeles and will happily guide you through the process.

Types of Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery serves many advantages for patients which include, adding a more rested, youthful appearance, increased symmetry, boost of self-confidence, and improved vision.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Do you feel like your eyes look tired, as though you’re sleepy or unhappy?

Excess fat deposits and skin on the eyelids make the eyes appear saggy, wrinkled, puffy and droopy.

The most common causes of sagging eyelids are from sun damage, aging, and genetics. This is where an upper blepharoplasty (one of the most popular types of eyelid surgery) comes into play.

During an upper eyelid surgery, a plastic surgeon uses incisions to remove excess fat or sagging skin in the upper eyelids, and ensures that there are no obvious scars after the procedure by concealing them in the natural structures of the eyelid.

After five days, you’ll need to return to the clinic to remove the sutures. After the 10th day following your surgery, you will notice changes in your appearance as the swelling subsides.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Sagging and puffy lower eyelids can make you feel like you look like you haven’t slept for ages.

Herniated fat deposits may collect under the eyes, and typically appear in older people, but even people in their 20s can experience these eye bags. Lower eyelid surgery is an excellent solution to correct these eyelid bags.

It aims to minimize or redistribute excess fat tissue that may accumulate under the eye.

The surgeon creates the incision on the outer edge of the lower eyelid, below the lash line. The doctor will remove excess fat and skin before closing the incision with tiny stitches. In some cases, the doctor removes excess skin to create a more tightened look.

The procedure will take one to two hours under local anesthesia. The recovery time will take about a couple of weeks.

Double Eyelift

Many people actually refer to this as the Asian eyelid surgery, seeing as it’s one of Asia’s most popular types of eyelid surgery. This procedure adds a supratarsal epicanthic fold in the upper eyelid, and gives your eyes a seemingly larger appearance as a result.

There are three methods to create a double eyelid-incision, buried suture, and beads. The buried suture and beads methods don’t require any incision, and although they’re well-known, you should also know about their shortcomings.

For instance, the beads method may show visible signs of the needle scars. On the other hand, the effects of the suture method can disappear when fat deposits collect on the upper eyelids.

It’s important to keep note that most surgeons still prefer the incision method; The incision method involves a slice on the skin. It’s a reliable technique since it also provides an extra perk, and als removes the wrinkles between the new double eyelid line and eyelashes.

Choosing the Best Eyelid Surgeon for Your Blepharoplasty

The popularity of eyelid surgery is on the rise, so there’s no better time than now to get it done if you’ve been considering it.

Surgeons who don’t specialize in cosmetic surgery may not recommend the right procedure for you which can lead to an eyelid revision surgery.

Depending on your age or extent of your aging, and what you hope to accomplish from the surgery, an experienced facial plastic surgeon in Los Angeles can determine the best option for you after a thorough exam and evaluation.
