Choosing Whether a Mini Facelift or Full Facelift is Right for You

Are you looking to get a mini facelift in Los Angeles? At Westside Face, we can give you the mini facelift that you’ve always dreamed of with our state-of-the-art plastic surgery services.

What’s the Difference Between a Mini Facelift and a Full Facelift?

A mini facelift is basically the same type of procedure as the full facelift, except the mid-section of the face is treated instead, less tissue is removed or adjusted, and it requires less time to perform.

The primary difference between a mini facelift and a traditional full facelift is the areas focused on; While the mini facelift focuses on the neck and the bottom third of the face, a full facelift focuses on the bottom two-thirds of the face and neck.

The general idea of a facelift is to use surgery to separate skin, tissue and muscle so tissue can be tightened, removed or contoured as needed. This approach makes it possible to achieve a more lasting effect than is possible through dermal injections or other procedures and also to address issues that other techniques cannot successfully remedy.

What Can I Expect During a Mini Facelift vs. Full Facelift?

During this procedure, the focus is on lifting your neck muscles, removing excess neck muscles and skin, tightening the remaini|ng skin, and lifting the lower facial skin.

Depending on your aesthetic goals, we may re-contour your cheeks, lift sagging cheek skin, restructure the tissue around your jawline to make it look more masculine or feminine, and remove excess fat.

The mini-facelift is well suited to those who have limited sagging or excess skin in the midface, jawline, and neck, and few concerns with a droopy brow. These facelifts are less invasive and use short-scar and endoscopic techniques to reposition the underlying facial tissues for a more youthful contour. Smaller incisions placed at the temples and in the hairline minimize postoperative scarring.

If you choose to have a mini-facelift in your 40s, the rate at which the lower part of your face ages, may be lessened. It’s becoming more common for women in their 40s and 50s to have mini facelifts to correct early signs of aging and improve definition.

Procedure Time: The mini-facelift procedure is about 60-90 minutes long.

Recovery Time: A mini-facelift takes about 1 to 3 weeks for a full recovery.

Lasting Results: 8 to 12 years — the more elastic your skin is, the longer-lasting the results will be.

What Can I Expect During a Full Facelift vs Mini Facelift?

To ensure you’re comfortable during your procedure, we use general anesthesia; once you’re asleep, we’ll make an incision around the ears that extends into the posterior hairline.

The traditional facelift (also known as rhytidectomy) is the most comprehensive way to address multiple signs of aging from the forehead to the neck, and all areas in between.

For the most natural look, we use the short scar SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) technique, where deeper layers of tissue and the muscle below the skin are tightened and excess skin is removed, smoothing out deep wrinkles for a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.

If you are in your 50’s or 60’s and opt for a traditional facelift, your face will age more slowly, and you’ll enjoy an elegant, engaging appearance for years to come. This type of lift allows for fat redistribution, muscle reposition, and removal of excess skin in order to provide the most long-lasting results of all types of facelifts available today.

Procedure Time: A full facelift procedure takes about 2 to 4 hours to perform.
Recovery Time: It will take about 1 to 2 weeks before most patients feel comfortable in public. It can take a few months for all the swelling and bruising to go down and up to 6 months for scars to fade.
Lasting Results: Results are permanent, and you’ll always look seven to ten years younger than if you hadn’t had it done.

How Long do the Effects of a Mini Facelift Last vs. a Full Facelift?

There are many factors that impact the longevity of both a mini facelift and a full facelift, such as patient activity, sun exposure, and weight changes. Since the mini facelift is a less invasive procedure, its results will “last” or be seen for a somewhat shorter period than a full facelift.

The results from a mini facelift may produce rejuvenation for five years or longer, typically about half the time that you could expect to retain the benefits of a full facelift. This is because of the smaller portion of your face (and the underlying tissue and muscle) has been tightened.

Mini Facelift vs. Facelift: Which is Better?

A mini facelift can be thought of as a smaller version of a lower facelift surgical procedure, designed for younger patients to catch signs of aging early on. Conversely, a facelift is more suited to people who want to treat concerns such as wrinkles, creases, loose muscle, sagging skin or volume loss.
